Start College Early and Save with Dual Enrollment

Tuition can be a real hurdle for high school students enrolling in college. So, too, can stepping up to the faster pace and study demands that come with being a college undergrad. That’s why we offer a program that can help high school juniors and seniors get a jump on their collegiate studies while saving – big – on tuition. It’s called the Dual Enrollment Program and we’re proud to boast a booming number of enrollees from across the state.

Save some serious coin

Students who sign up for our Dual Enrollment Program get their first two college courses free of charge and half off tuition for the rest of the courses they take while in high school.

Students pay none of the mandatory fees our undergraduates pay. And we have scholarship opportunities for Western Montana high school seniors and for students whose families participate in an approved government assistance program such as Healthy Montana Kids.

Not only are you saving time but many of our students are able to knock out at least one semester of college while participating in the program.

Interested in taking it to the next level and pursuing a certification so that you can graduate high school and college at the same time? We have pathways that are built with you in mind.

Two paths to success

Because no one size fits all students, we offer two tracks through the Dual Enrollment Program:

  • A number of high schools offer in-class concurrent instruction through high school teachers qualified to teach college-level courses. Depending on the high school, classes offered range from Precalculus to Intro to Business.
  • The Early College Program, is perfect for students who prefer to study online or who can visit the UM, Missoula College or UM Bitterroot campuses. In this program you are welcome to take any 100- or 200-level courses offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

Your credits pack easily

Credits earned through Dual Enrollment easily transfer, no sweat, to all Montana University System colleges and universities. Many will transfer to institutions around the country.

To check this out for sure, we recommend connecting to a sweet tool called Transferology. It’s free and can help you determine what universities will accept credits you’ve already earned.

This is the real deal

In the Dual Enrollment Program, you aren’t a “wanna-be” undergrad, you become a full-fledged Griz, with the same privileges and benefits of other enrolled students.

That includes access to additional scholarships, UM’s online portals to sign up for classes, textbooks, a UM email address and even your very own Griz ID card.

We make it easy

Enrolling in college can be a big deal. That’s why we’ve got a new students page set up to walk you step-by-step through the process, and a resources and Q&A page that you will want to check out as well.

If you still aren’t sure you’re Dual Enrollment material, schedule some quality time through the programs advising portal and Dual Enrollment team will be happy to meet with you!
