Free Resources for Every UM Student
The University of Montana has several free resources to assist students of every background. Whether you’re a “traditional” student, a first-generation student, a veteran or a transfer student pursuing a better future through education, you can find assistance in many ways.
You are not alone at UM. Scroll below to explore all the resources available to every student from the first day of classes through graduation:
Office for Student Success
The Office for Student Success helps students transition smoothly to college and graduate in a timely manner. The office offers free resources such as tutoring and academic advising. They also work with departments to help students with academic growth and personal development.
Trio Student Support Services
Trio Student Support Services (SSS) is a free resource that includes tutoring, scholarships, mentorships and book and technology loan programs. TRIO also teaches four courses designed specifically for eligible students.
UM Financial Aid
UM’s Financial Aid office is the first stop for knowledge and understanding of the different types of grants, scholarships and eligible financial aid. This includes the FAFSA, UM’s merit scholarships and scholarship portals, and tips on how to pay for college.
UM Financial Education
The UM Financial Education provides students one-on-one advising for financial concerns, such as budgeting, credit scores, financial aid options, your Federal Financial Aid package and more.
Writing and Public Speaking Center
The Writing and Public Speaking Center, available both online and in the Mike and Maureen Mansfield Library, helps students, faculty and staff with tips on writing essays and doing other kinds of work that involves writing or speaking.
Experiential Learning and Career Success
The Office of Experiential Learning and Career Success is your hub for finding a fulfilling career after graduation. Start planning your future on day one with resources for finding a job after receiving your degree. The office helps students secure internships and mentorships and provides career guidance.
Curry Health Center
Curry Health Center offers low-cost counseling and free wellness resources covering stress management, safe partying, safe sex, exercise and healthy eating. Their facility also includes medical and dental appointments and a full-service pharmacy.
Office for Disability Equity
The Office for Disability Equity (ODE) ensures student accommodations in and outside the classroom. This applies to learning, living, and working at UM and ensures equity throughout campus. This is the place to go with any request for accommodations.
Griz Hub
Griz Hub is a social resource for students to expand their community. The platform lists all the events, clubs, intramural sports and all the ways to dive deeper into Griz Country.
Veteran Student Resources
For student veterans or students affiliated with a veteran family member, check out the Military and Veterans Service Office in addition to the resources mentioned above. This office provides a space for fellow military and veteran students and support, such as resources for military tuition assistance, the G.I. Bill and financial aid.

Madison Knapp is a creative writing student at the University of Montana minoring in French. She is an out-of-state student from Bellingham, Washington, and has thoroughly enjoyed her time at UM. She is also a DHC student and a proud member of the Grizzly Marching Band.
