UM Class Opens Doors to Hunting
A unique class in UM's W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation combines Montana's sweeping backcountry with an-depth, immersive experience of hunting. The class, called Wild Sustenance, emphasizes the ethical aspects of hunting while addressing the barriers new hunters must overcome to be successful.
UM followed the journey of several students as their understanding of hunting grows through their experiences in the field, classroom and kitchen, as they tailor their own understanding of what land and sustenance means. The class embeds themes of conservation, wildlife management and a deep respect for the animals that are harvested.
