Beyond being able to get access to your bookmarks from any computer, social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us take their real power from providing access to what you and others are bookmarking. For example, if I want to follow the bookmarks of colleagues in my discipline, I can add them to my network and see the latest topics of interest and vice versa. It might lead to some interesting opportunities for collaboration. Should we get to the stage of collaboration, we could decide to share a tag for bookmarks i.e. UManthropology. Del.icio.us would then let us ’subscribe’ to anything that has this tag, and all of our shared bookmarks could be gathered in one easy-to-read location. We could make these gathered bookmarks public as well. There’s lots to explore. Read more
