Network Service Outages: 7/15

The network data service outages originally scheduled to occur last week have been rescheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, beginning at 8:00am. The purpose of this activity is to move network data service from old fiber cable to new fiber cable. The outages should last less than 15 minutes for each building involved. Buildings include: Education, Music, PARTV, Law, Curry Health Center, 629 South 6^th St., 645 South 6^th St. Thank you for your cooperation.

OID Directory Server Downtime: 7/7; 4-5p

On Monday, July 7, from 4-5pm, IT system administrators will perform necessary maintenance on the OID server. The OID is the directory that authenticates electronic resources available via the NetID (Blackboard, IT computer labs, Library Remote Resources, OneStop, wireless access). This means that during this time users will be unable to login to these resources. However, if users are already logged in, they will be unaffected.

In order to move network data service from old fiber cable to new fiber cable, short network data service outages will occur Thursday, July 3, beginning at 8:00am. The outages should be less than 15 minutes for each building involved. Buildings include: Education, Music, PARTV, Law, Curry Health Center, 629 South 6^th St., 645 South 6^th St. Thank you.

IT web server downtime: 6/30

On Monday, June 30, from 5pm until approximately 10pm, maintenance will be performed on the IT web server. All websites that are hosted on the umt.edu server will be unavailable during this time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

It appears as though one of Bresnan’s gateways is blocking UM email addresses (@umt.edu, @umontana.edu). Our system administrators have contacted them asking that they unblock our addresses. We apologize for any inconvenience. We will post additional updates when available.

Email blacklisting - UPDATE

Regarding Friday’s announcement about another case of a compromised email account potentially causing UM emails (@umt.edu or @umontana.edu) to be blacklisted with various organizations, system administrators have monitored the situation and at this point, no such problems have occurred. If you or any of your users experience email issues related to blacklisting (messages will be returned), please let us know at IT Central, 243-HELP.

We have reason to suspect that another phishing incident will cause UM emails (@umt.edu) to be blacklisted with various organizations. IT system administrators are working on the issue but would appreciate information regarding sites that are blacklisting UM email. Please contact IT Central at 243-HELP to report any problems.
