Temporary Exchange issue resolved: 10/28/09, 2:15 p.m.

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

This afternoon’s Exchange issue that affected the same group of users as this morning has been resolved. System administrators have temporarily moved the virtual store to another hard drive.

To complete the process, they will take the virtual store down at nine o’clock tonight for approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Only those users whose accounts were affected this morning and afternoon will notice any effects during this planned outage.

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We are experiencing an issue affecting Exchange email users. It is a separate issue than this morning with what appears to be the same storage set, so again it is not affecting all users, but a specific set of users.

The Sys Admins are working on the issue and we will let you know when it is resolved.

Blackboard update: 10/22

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

At 2:48 PM local time on October 21, one of the hardware devices on which Blackboard runs failed completely. Through the use of log files, we were able to return the system to its state of 1:37 PM local time.  Any work done in the 71 minute span between these two times will have been lost. We deeply regret the inconvenience this causes you. Questions may be directed to the Blackboard support team at 243-4999.

Web development server upgrade

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

IT’s  aging central development server (http://w3dev.umt.edu) is becoming obsolete.  We are in the process of upgrading it and only want to migrate necessary sites since many of the sites are now managed by the CMS.  We would like to know if you are actively using the development server (http://w3dev.umt.edu). Please let us know within 2 weeks (by Oct. 22th) if you are using this server, and we will migrate your development site.  Otherwise your content will be archived and will no longer be accessible on the development server.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

 Thanks,

UM Web Team

Listserv Maintenance: 10/12, 5-5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

System administrators will be performing maintenance on the LISTSERV email list server on Monday, October 12, 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.  During the maintenance period, the application will be totally unavailable. This means that if you are a list owner or list subscriber you will be unable to post to your list (e.g. techpart@lists.umt.edu, banner-announce@lists.umt.edu, etc.) or access the LISTSERV interface (http://lists.umt.edu) during this time. Please plan accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.

Possible Power Outage – IT update

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

This Sunday’s possible power outage in the Social Science building will not impact campus network services. However, since some IT web servers are housed on the first floor of the Social Science building, as a precautionary measure, IT will bring down these servers Sunday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. This means that some web services will be impacted. If you attempt to access an IT-hosted web service or website during this time and are unable to do so, it may be related to this outage. Here are several services that will be unavailable:

  • OneStop announcement feeds
  • Access to the following websites:
    • Ask an Alum
    • Western MT Volunteers
    • Student Jobs
    • Faculty Senate
    • Diversity site (connect.umt.edu)
    • Blackberry service (users have been notified)
    • Blogs & Wikis
    • UM campus map
    • UM News and Events
    • Select Survey
    • AV requests

Thank you.

Possible Power Outage: 10/4/09

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Possible Power Outage – Sunday, October 4, 2009, 8:00 a.m. -  noon

Facilities Services is advising the campus community that a possible power outage may occur on Sunday, October 4th (this is a change from the 3rd because of testing on campus).

They are completing work on the transformer for the Social Sciences Building (ONLY) and although a back-up generator will be in place, offices may want to turn off computer equipment or other equipment that could result in loss if the power is dropped inadvertently.  This outage SHOULD not effect other places on campus.  However precaution should be taken.

Please call Hugh Jesse, Director of Facilities Services at 243-2788 for further information.
