Fall 2009 IT Short Courses now available

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The Fall 2009 IT Short Course training schedule is now available for registration on our website.

Each semester we offer a variety of Banner, Business Services, MS Office 2007, and web training classes. Here’s a highlight of two new courses.

• Technology Orientation for Employees. This course, offered by IT staff, will familiarize new and current employees with the many computing systems at UM, how to access them, and best practices for using various technologies, and is offered on a monthly basis.

• Operational Efficiency. This course series, offered by Jessica Carter, program coordinator for Extended Learning Services, will introduce you to tools and practices that can help you become and stay organized, communicate effectively, and work more efficiently. Whether you take only one course or the entire series, you’ll learn practical tips and tools you can incorporate into your workday right away.

All classes are free of charge to University faculty, staff and students. Please note that Banner classes are typically restricted to faculty and staff. However, if a department employs a student and the job duties require them to be in the Banner system, we will allow registration upon approval from their supervisor.

How to Register:

To view the schedule and register online for classes, go to our IT short course training courses web link . Once you have made your course selections (click in the check boxes next to the course date/time/location), click on the Register button at the bottom of the web page. On the next page, enter the requested information and click on Confirm entries. Review your entries and then click Complete Registration. It’s that simple!

For additional IT support resources, go to the Information Technology website. Banner Support is available at the Banner Support website.

All sessions are being used as soon as they are accessed. Please refresh the CyberBear page if you receive the error and you will eventually gain access. This may take a few refreshes. We apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you. Questions? Contact IT Central, 243-HELP or Social Science 120.

Banner update: 8/28/09

Yesterday during Orientation, a high volume of students were accessing CyberBear to register for classes. In addition, departments were using Banner for student or payroll activities.  Because of these activities, Banner service for most of the day was very, very slow. Banner service this morning has resumed as normal. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue caused. Questions may be directed to IT Central at 243-4357. Thank you.
