The Summer 2009 IT Short Course training schedule is now available for registration on the IT website. All classes are free of charge to University faculty, staff and students. Please note that Banner classes are typically restricted to faculty and staff. However, if a department employs a student and the job duties require them to be in the Banner system, we will allow registration upon approval from their supervisor.

How to Register:
To view the schedule and register online for classes, go to our IT short course training courses web link.Once you have made your course selections (click in the check boxes next to the course date/time/location), click on the Register button at the bottom of the web page. On the next page, enter the requested information and click on Confirm entries. Review your entries and then click on Complete Registration. It’s that simple!

NOTE: MS Office classes will return to the schedule Fall semester.

If you have questions or need assistance with a specific blog or wiki, please contact IT Central, 243-HELP,  for assistance. We apologize for the incovenience this issue caused and thank you for your patience.

Students: Archive GrizMail when leaving UM

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

UM students: If you are graduating this Spring or Summer semester, OR are not returning to the University as a registered student Fall semester 2009, access to your NetID services, such as GrizMail, Blackboard, OneStop, IT labs, campus wireless and library remote resources, will end during the third week of Fall semester. We encourage you to archive important email and contact information from your GrizMail account prior to Fall semester. For information in archiving your GrizMail email, please visit the IT Central Tips & Tools web page.

If you are not registering for Fall semester but will be associated with UM (study abroad, military leave, thesis work) you may meet the requirements for a Student Affiliate which would allow you to maintain access to your NetID-based services. However, you must apply for Student Affiliate status prior to the 15th class day of the semester to retain those services. After the third week of Fall semester, these requests cannot be accommodated. International students should contact Jeanne Loftus and previously registered students should contact Bonnie Holzworth. Please provide detailed information on how you will be associated with the University while you are not a registered student.

Questions may be directed to IT Central, Social Science 120, or 243-HELP (4357).

IE8: compatibility issues

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Windows Internet Explorer 8 is the latest web browser developed by Microsoft and became available on March 19. Microsoft is now distributing it via automatic updates as a high priority update.

Please note that IE8 has been shown to cause problems with timed tests in Blackboard (unless it is run in compatibility mode) and inconsistently works with Banner (https://inb.umt.edu). IT is holding off the distribution of IE8 to those who use our updating service until we are comfortable that it works with Blackboard and Banner. This means that IT is currently not supporting IE8.

If you configure your own Microsoft updates, you may be prompted for the install of IE8. We encourage you not to install IE8 if you use Blackboard and/or Banner at this time.

Thank you.
