Cyclists

Joining this trip, include nine energetic students from diverse backgrounds and Universities, two course instructors, and two documentary film-makers.

Janna “JJ” Green attends the University of Oregon where she is majoring in Architecture and Environmental Studies. Her hometown is Lincoln City, Oregon.


Leora Stein

Leora Stein attends the Whitman College where she is majoring in Environmental Studies and Sociology. Her home town is Portland, Oregon.


Devin Trainor

Devin Trainor attends Humboldt State University where he is majoring in Environmental Science and Appropriate Technology. His hometown is Andover, Massachusetts.


Patrick Walden

Patrick Walden attends the University of British Columbia where he is majoring in Geography. His hometown is Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Felicity “Flick” Anderson attends the University of Queensland where she’s getting her Masters of Agriculture. Her hometown is Tumbarumba, Australia.

 

Dave Morris has instructed for the Yosemite Institute, Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides, two Outward Bound Schools, and several other outdoor education programs. He has traveled extensively in Canada, South America, New Zealand, and Asia. He has taught for WRFI since 2001 and his course experience includes Montana Afoot and Afloat, Canyonlands of the Colorado Plateau, Montana’s Continental pide, Conservation and Community in the Yellowstone to Yukon Region, Baja California, and Alaskan Rainforests. Dave loves teaching at the college level and offers students a wealth of knowledge about resource issues, ecology, and environmental policy. Dave received his M.S. in Environmental Studies at the University of Montana and will begin a PhD program in the College of Forestry and Conservation at UM this Fall. Nicky Phear Thumbnail

Nicky Phear is a faculty member at the University of Montana where she coordinates and teaches in the Wilderness and Civilization Program. She is currently active in climate change education and outreach. Last fall she cycled through Oregon and Northern California with the Ride for Climate to raise awareness of global warming and the need for action. She serves on the city of Missoula’s Mayor’s Climate Change Advisory Board and is helping the University of Montana develop an interdisciplinary minor in climate change. She received her M.S. in Environmental Studies at the University of Montana and has taught for a range of field-based programs including the WRFI, Prescott College, and the Colorado Outward Bound School. She is an avid cyclist, loves Montana, and is thrilled to again be cycling across the state with students. She can be reached at nicky.phear@umontana.edu.

Adam Greenfield is a graduate student in San Francisco State University’s Radio and Television Masters program in the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts department. Adam has worked in both academic and professional spheres in both studio and outdoors environments as a cameraman, director, and video and audio editor.

Margot Higgins is a Phd student at UC Berkeley who is focusing on environmental education, biomimicry and human development. For her master’s degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Montana she co-produced and edited two documentary films that were featured in a number film festivals as well as on Montana PBS. For three summers, Margot taught college students in the field through the Wildlands Studies Program in McCarthy, Alaska. Both Margot and Adam are avid bikers and have worked and volunteered for a number of environmental organizations in Montana and California.
