The Grizzlies traveled to a warm and sunny Greeley, CO, last weekend to take on the University of Northern Colorado Bears – I was fortunate enough to tag along to see to the tailgate. What a beautiful day it was. The UNC Alumni Association shared their tailgate experience with the ever-faithful Griz fans (some of whom traveled from Montana) in the parking lot next to the stadium. Jackson’s Bar and Grill fixed up a fabulous BBQ of brats and burgers and poured cold bevies for those interested in partaking, while energetic and toe-tapping music played in the background. We even had a couple of brave souls (Grizzly Athletics Marketing Director Christie Anderson and GSA Special Events Coordinator Brynn Malloy) stand up in front of the crowd and sing the Griz fight song.
All were entertained by a very young Griz fan – Hannah Baskett, daughter of UM alum Rick Baskett ‘76 & J.D. ‘79 whose infectious smile was extremely contagious.
I’m sure that all who attended last weekend’s game, including Hannah, were thrilled with the 41-20 whooping the Griz handed the Bears. I know I was!
Thanks to the very nice folks from UNC’s Alumni Association, VP for Alumni and Donor Relations Jerry DeWitt and Associate Director Andrea Hawkins, for their gracious welcome and the hard work they put into helping make our tailgate a smash.
